BFS Cargo Organized a Charity “the Second Annual BFS Cargo Awards Gala Dinner”

On 17 February 2012, Bangkok Flight Services organized “the Second Annual BFS Cargo Awards Gala Dinner” at JW Marriott Hotel to thank BFS customers and present various BFS Cargo Awards and BFS Cargo Hall of Fame Awards with two surprised BFS Honorary Cargo Hall of Fame Awards to those who had contributed greatly to the Air Cargo industry. Another purpose of this event is to raise money for the Foundation for Slum Child Care under the Royal Patronage of H.R.H Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra (FSCC.) The awards were presented by Mr. Thavatvong Thanasumitra, the Chairman of Bangkok Flight Services and Executive Vice President – Finance of Bangkok Airways; Mr. Barry Nassberg, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Worldwide Flight Service; Mr. Stewart Sinclair, Managing Director of Bangkok Flight Services and Mr. Des Vertannes, Global Head of Cargo of International Air Transport Association (IATA.)

BFS Cargo Awards were presented to the selected airlines and freight forwarders, followed by the presentation of Cargo Hall of Fame Awards of which this year was given to Khun Varin Pulsirivong who was the First Chairman of Thai Airfreight Forwarding Association (TAFA) and the two surprised BFS Honorary Cargo Hall of Fame Awards were presented to Mr. Ram Menen, Divisional Senior Vice President Cargo of Emirates and Mr. Des Vertannes, Global Head of Cargo of International Air Transport Association. The Second BFS Cargo Awards Gala Dinner received very strong support from air cargo community with guests attending from the local and international from UAE, Switzerland, Malaysia and Pakistan.

BFS also used this Gala Dinner to conduct their corporate social responsibility exercise which they chose to help the Foundation for Slum Child Care under the Royal Patronage of H.R.H Princess Galyani Vadhana Krom Luang Naradhiwas Rajanagarindra (FSCC) which two days earlier, BFS donated 60 units of used computers, 29 printers, 10 wooden tables and 60 wooden chairs for the children to the Foundation.

The FSCC was founded in 1981 with the aims to improve the quality of life for babies and young children in the slums of Bangkok. Presently, H.R.H Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn is an Honorary Chairman of the Foundation. Currently, FSCC has four houses in four slum areas which are Baan Somwai in Klong Toei, Baan Srinakarin in Nong Kham, Baan Hang Kwam Wang in On Nut and Baan Suea Yai in Prachauthit. For Baan Hang Kwam Wang in On-Nut garbage area is located in a small and run down building. The Foundation do not have their own property to be able to accommodate more needed children.

Seeing the situation, Mr. David Ambridge – General Manager of BFS Cargo expressed his intention to help the Foundation in establishing their own childcare center on their own land and own building. By the end of the evening, Mr. Ambridge who spearheaded the fund raising effort was able to raise the overwhelming amount of five millions baht for the Foundation which brought lots of tears and joy to many guests who were there at the event. With this amount of donation, BFS and air cargo community hope that FSCC will be able to buy their own land and build a new childcare center which is expected to help improve the quality of life for the children in On-Nut slum area.
